One Little Word: February 2016

This month was about doing one thing every day and keeping a track of the habit. I had a bit of a giggle when I saw the prompt, because I’d been doing that very thing with my Morning Pages in January.

Having just done it, I had a very good idea of the value of the exercise, so I was keen to get started.

I decided that I’d set myself the challenge of working on my novel every day for the month. A big part of the reason for choosing the word ‘focus’ this year was about getting that big project done, so it seemed apt.

It turns out that this was a bit more challenging than doing Morning Pages daily. My novel is a project that I’m passionate about, and really want to get right, and there were days this month where I didn’t feel like I had that in me. And when I missed a day, it shook my confidence a bit. You can see in the third week there that I missed four days in a row – those empty circles represent a big crisis of confidence, and a period of project paralysis.

But I’m proud of myself, because I pushed past that, and at this end of the month, I have a card that shows I worked on my novel more days than not, and that’s good!

All in all, this was a really good month. A month that was about letting go of perfectionism, and counting big-picture wins.

I’m looking forward Getting on with March’s prompt!
