I made this project as a member of rukristin’s design team, and it was originally posted here on her blog.
2015 is, shockingly, drawing to a close.
No, seriously, it is.
And that’s what’s inspired this little project. Time is, as they say in the classics, fleeting, so taking little snapshots at key moments is important to me.
I’ve got this amazing group of friends in my life – hugely creative, inventive, interesting, intelligent, compassionate, loving people – and I wanted to ask them about where they’re at right now, at the end of this particular year.
I didn’t want to ask them for reams of introspective prose, or to give me a blow by blow of their year, I just wanted to use a couple of simple prompts to capture a few sentences about their immediate present.
First I prepared a bunch of cards by painting a watercolour streak at the top, and then hand lettering the name of each friend over it. I then selected three stamps from the rukristin currently list stamp set for each friend, and asked them to let me know their answers. For simplicity’s sake, I quizzed by email and transcribed their answers onto the cards, but in retrospect it would have been nicer to have each individual’s handwriting there. That’s something I’ll bear in mind for next year.
I then paired each person’s answers up with a favourite photo of them from the year, and organized the lot in a gold 4×4 mini album. I didn’t want to over embellish these spreads, because the words are the important part, but I couldn’t ignore the urge to give each person a sparkly gold heart. I love my squad, and I show it with glitter.
Last of all, I made a super minimal title page, with another watercolour streak, and the year stamped with the rukristin basic numbers clear stamp set.
The overall look is loose, natural, and cohesive, and I really love this little keepsake.
