If you suffer from anxiety, insomnia, or even just regular old garden variety stress, chamomile tea is one of the best and most readily available herbal treatments around.
I like to grow and dry my own, but you can get good quality chamomile at health food stores, and in a pinch it’s even available in supermarkets.
The only thing I don’t always love about it is it’s weirdly savoury floral flavour. It can be a bit overwhelming, in it’s one-note bloominess, so I like to augment that by adding two other ingredients when I make a brew.
Chamomile tea with honey and vanilla
Ingredients:
- 1 heaped tablespoon of dried chamomile flowers
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 tsp honey
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Method:
- Place honey and vanilla in a tea cup.
- Put chamomile flowers in an infuser, and stick that in the cup too.
- Pour in boiling water, and allow to steep for at leat 3-5 minutes.
- Stir to ensure honey and vanilla haven’t settled on the bottom of your cup.
- Drink.
These two simple additions make the whole chamomile experience yummier, and you’ll find yourself reaching for a cup way more than you used to. So here’s to a calmer mind, deeper sleeps, and more relaxed days!
